Don’t know where to start?
Let’s Set Up A Virtual Consult!
Perfect for cattle owners who are new to artificial insemination or unsure if they’re ready. We’ll slow things down, assess your goals, and give you a solid roadmap.
Together, we’ll cover:
- What matters most for successful conception
- Common AI myths vs. facts
- Basic info on minerals, nutrition & timing critical roles
- How to pick the right bull for your goals
- What to expect from me and you!
Applies as credit if you move forward with another package!
I became a certified Artificial Insemination (AI) Technician in June 2025 through Flying Cow Genetics, and I’m currently completing my AI Mastery Certificate while on track for veterinary school, where I plan to specialize in livestock reproduction and education. With over 7 years of hands-on experience in veterinary and livestock management roles, I bring a unique blend of science, strategy, and real-world skill to every breeding plan.
Before transitioning into agriculture full time, I served in the U.S. military. That experience delayed my academic path but deepened my commitment to service, structure, and integrity—values that still shape my work today. If I’m ever unsure or outside my scope, I’ll always be honest with you and help create a safe, effective plan tailored to your herd’s needs.
While I am not a veterinarian and do not offer medical diagnoses, I operate fully within the Oklahoma Veterinary Practice Act, and all of my AI services are designed to protect animal welfare, support fertility, and build long-term success for homesteaders, small farms, and legacy breeders.
“Hormone-free” means we do not use CIDRs, synchronization shots, or chemical-based protocols to manipulate your cow’s cycle. Instead, we support natural heat detection and work with the cow’s body using holistic tools—like minerals, nutrition, and heat detection patches—to achieve conception success.
We look for physical and behavioral signs of heat: mounting activity, restlessness, clear discharge, vocalization, and softening of the vulva. I teach you how to spot these cues—and we can also apply heat detection patches if you’re unsure. Our goal is for you to feel confident tracking heats naturally, with or without us present.
Each insemination package includes one breeding attempt per cow. However, follow-up support is available. If conception doesn’t occur, I’ll help you troubleshoot nutrition, timing, or stress-related factors before attempting again.
Additional cows being AI’d on the same day are an extra $30 each.
Additional cows being AI’d on different days is $75 + mileage fees if you live 1 hour outside of Mustang, Oklahoma.
Yes—but it’s optional and offered as an add-on service for $50. I use a portable squeeze chute that allows me to safely perform AI services on-site for clients who may not have their own cattle handling equipment. This fee helps cover the additional towing, setup, and handling time.
If you already have your own functional chute and working area, I’m happy to use your setup instead—no extra charge.
Please note: whether you’re using my chute or yours, cattle should be caught and ready before arrival. I’ll work with you during the consultation to help plan an efficient and low-stress handling setup, especially if you’re working with limited infrastructure.
Conception success with artificial insemination (AI) depends on several key factors—timing, nutrition, mineral balance, and overall cow health. When everything lines up, natural AI can achieve conception rates of up to 75%, often equal to or even better than timed protocols.
That said, no method is ever 100% guaranteed. Success is also influenced by:
1. How the bull was managed prior to collection,
2. How the semen was processed and stored in the lab,
3. How the AI straw was handled during thawing and insemination,
4. And how the cow’s cycle and environment were supported before and after breeding.
At Wild & Free Homestead, we focus on readiness, education, and cow comfort, which gives your cattle the best possible chance at success—especially when you follow the prep plan we build during your consultation.
While no AI service can guarantee results, we make sure you’re equipped with the tools, knowledge, and support to stack the odds in your favor.
Yes—please have your cow caught and secured (in a chute, headgate, or sturdy setup). I’ll need safe, close access to her rear end and time to review her health and signs of heat. If you’re unsure how to do this, I can walk you through setup in advance.
MultiMin 90 is an injectable trace mineral that supports immune function, fertility, and overall reproductive health.
We HIGHLY recommend administering it ~4 weeks before AI to boost the cow’s nutritional baseline, increase conception, and support healthy embryo development.
If you’ve selected the “Premium Package,” this includes a letter to your doctor to obtain a prescription. In both packages, I teach you how to properly administer the injection. That way you have the skillset to utilize the injection by yourself in the future!
Absolutely. Sire selection is one of my favorite parts of this work. If you’re breeding for milk, meat, temperament, polled genetics, or rare colors, I’ll help you choose a bull that aligns with your goals.
This service is included in the Premium Package, or can be an add on service for an additional $30.
Not necessarily. You’re welcome to source your own semen, or I can help you find high-quality straws that match your breeding goals. As of September 2025, I only have Dexter Cattle Semen available for purchase.
I offer short-term storage in my cryo tank, and for long-term storage, we’ll coordinate with a local semen bank like Bullnanza.
I use a cryogenic tank (like the one pictured on my site) to temporarily store semen straws at -320°F in liquid nitrogen, which is the industry standard for preserving sperm viability long-term. I check tank levels weekly and follow strict storage and handling protocols to ensure quality is never compromised.
After performing AI, I transfer the remaining straws to long-term storage at Bullnaza, a professional facility equipped for secure, multi-client nitrogen storage. This setup allows me to safely house your genetics until the job is done—without risking exposure or degradation.
Yes, but…
If AI doesn’t result in pregnancy, I’ll help you assess what went wrong and suggest next steps. In some cases, I may recommend trying again during the next cycle.
Rebreeds are not included in the base packages. They are $75.
The Virtual Consult is a 60 minute call where we go over your herd’s readiness, cow history, and breeding goals. It’s perfect for first-timers or clients outside my travel radius. If you book a full package later, the consult fee rolls into your total.
I recommend breeding heifers only after they’re at least 15 months old or have reached 65% of their mature body weight. This helps ensure healthy development and reduces calving risks.
I’m comfortable working with most cattle breeds, but if I have any concerns about your animal—especially in terms of size, handling, or safety—I’ll be honest and upfront. For example, longhorn cattle may not fit safely in my portable chute, so we’ll discuss alternatives during the consultation.
